Tasks:
-Complete final edit
-Complete final Digipak / Magazine Advertisement
Completing Final Edit:
I largely focused on the colour grading elements of the production, first altering the Black&White grade to include a Vignette, I then looked at implementing colour transitions for the cuts between the Boys line of action / the Females,
I used the Center Wipe transition during the final drop when the frame emerges into colour, I ensured that the wipe followed the male as he entered the frame
Finally, I went over the footage and used the Stabilizer to stabilize any shaky footage, I did so by going into the colour page of Da Vinci, changed the stabilizer settings to Strong- 120, Smooth- 60 and enabling Zoom.
I then went over a final check over the footage, ensuring that it cut on beat throughout and the grading remained consistent, by watching the production several times.
Completing Digipak:
I went over the photoshop files of all of our Digipak panes, ensuring that they were all correct / making any adjustments necessary
I decided to alter the background of the inside 2 pane by removing the chest of drawers the artist is sitting against, I did so by selecting the drawers and removing them, selecting the wall, duplicating it and using it to fill the gap from the drawers, I then used the clone stamp tool to soften out the edges
Completing Magazine Advertisement:
I made the final touches to the Advertisement, adding several features, for example the artists record company, the link to his website, his Facebook and a logo linking to Spotify
I also slightly altered the positioning of the text to ensure they didn't clash with the main image

DC: Digipak Still photoshoot
-I aimed to take the abstract images required for our Digipak idea
-I used my own home and the park as locations

DC: Reflection 8
Tasks:
Complete final Digipak mock up:
- Edit front cover, Back cover, Inside 1 and Inside 2
- Ensure images fit artists metanarrative, genre conventions and feature artist
to put across his 'Star Image'
Front Cover
I wanted to create an image that focused on the artist as it would convey the star image to the audience, furthermore it relates to similar digipak covers by the artist:
Starting Image:
Starting Image involves the artist making eye contact with the audience, fitting my idea for the cover
The steps I took to edit are:
- Remove background, then adjust the colour balance to bring out magenta (colour prevalent in artists artwork)
- Fill background in white
- Duplicate the layer
- Place the 'Poster Edges' filter over the lower layer
- Use both the splatter eraser, and the lasso tool to remove segments of the image, leaving the 'Poster Edges' effect behind
- I then placed the artists logo in the top left corner, and the name of the album using the artists unique font
Final Image:
Back Cover:
The back cover would feature the track listing, therefore I wanted to select a landscape image with little content to draw away from the tracks. I chose a nature shot, taking an image of a tree in the morning before school.
Starting Image:
-I first placed a colour overlay of magenta over the image, then altering the opacity to ensure the first image remained visible
- Altered the brightness / opacity to ensure the image remained in the background of the frame
- When incorporating text into the back cover, I decided to use simple white text, I felt this minimilist style was effective, particuarly when juxtaposed against the bright nature shot in the background
- I used an image of the artists logo and placed it over the top of the image, removing the background with the magic wand tool
- Placed the tracks over the image using the artists signature font
Final Image:
Inside 1:
For the first inside shot, I wanted to once again use a shot of the artist, something that is conventional of the genres digipaks (they often heavily feature the artist as the artists image usually isn't presented in their other forms of media)
Starting Image:
- I started by cropping the image to form a square shape, allowing it to fit the Digipak template
- I used a similar technique used in the Front Cover to form a link between the two
- Starting by applying the poster edges effect
-Then removing parts of the artist, and the chair he is sitting next to
Inside 2
The second inside shot would feature underneath the CD, therefore it was important to not feature too much detail. I decide to take a surreal shot of a piece of jewellery taken on a white sheet
Starting Image:
-First I heavily cropped the image down to ensure focus was on the piece of jewellery
-I wanted to keep the images style minimalist, so I did little editing
-I selected the sheet using the magic wand/ select tool, I used the adjustment - colour balance and increased the magenta to ensure the image fit with the artists metanarrative of using the colour

DC: Reflection 7
Tasks:
- Continue editing final cut of video
-I continued editing on beat, focusing on refining the relationship at the end, I cut the footage down to ensure it cut on beat and linked to the correct clip
-I then went through the rest of the footage filled all of the gaps in footage, altering the timeline to ensure that it remained accurate to our storyboards and their weren't any remaining gaps
-Further edited the colour grading of both the Male line of narrative and the Female, mainly focusing on the ellipse effect as it was previously overpowering in any interior shots.
I created a separate 'Still' for interior and exterior shots rather than using the same one, this created a better effect overall

*
- Artists within the electronic genre frequently feature themselves on their advertisements/ digipacks as a way to represent their 'Star Image' as they often do not feature in their music videos due to the lack of performance required within the genre
- However, artists often feature as Cameos during their videos, me and Ed incorporated this into our video by involving me in the party scene, as a extra in the background in one of the shots
-I acted as the artist while Ed took the images, we took several things into consideration, including framing, props, and the set
-We chose to shoot in the drama studio upstairs as it could act as an abstract location, however we used a variety of props and arranged the set to incorporate 'regular' everyday items in order to create a sense of surrealism conventional of Flume's artwork / Advertisements
2)
- I began the edit of the final, relationship scene during school hours, then completed it on my laptop when I got home
- I decided to incorporate a relatively high cutting rate, that slowly decreased as the song drew to a close, this allowed the rate to fade out of the high rate during the party scene, rather than instantly cutting to a slow rate
- I focused on continuity editing, showing the characters leaving the first location before cutting to the second
- I placed a warm effect over the footage in colour grading by upping the Gamma and the Lift by 0.2 towards Red, this anchored the happy emotions represented in the scene, something that I found particularly effective when juxtaposed against the Black&White footage seen previously
-In the final shot, I opened with a focus pull, however I decided to reverse the shot to end the Video with a pull out of focus, I did so by manipulating the time of the clip through the retime curve

DC: Reflection 5
Tasks:
Edit timing of all footage
Incorporate diegetic sound into timeline
I went through all of the footage, editing it to cut on beat. Furthermore, I edited the footage so that the electronic sounds matched the action in the timeline, for example timing the protagonist running up the stairs to correlate with the music / the protagonist landing after jumping down from the wall with his friend
I decided to incorporate dietetic sound to the beginning of the timeline, overlaying the shots establishing Brighton as the location (i360 tower/ Seagulls)
I used sound files found on www.freesound.com to create the effect, using the sounds of seagulls calling and waves. I also used the diegetic sound used during the shoot, minimizing the volume to ensure the wind captured by the camera wasn't overpowering
Group: Drama studio photoshoot
Images from Digipak photo shoot in Drama Studio
- In the time we wanted to take all of the 'Star Image' photos of the artist, utilizing the drama studio due to it's flexibility as a location with both props and accessibility
