DC: Reflection 6

Aims:

- Complete photoshoot for Digipak / Magazine Advertisement
- Complete edit of Relationship Scene / Closing scene

1)

-Me and Ed completed the photoshoot during school time, we decided to feature our artist on the digipack as it is conventional of the artist's metanarrative/ the genre*

*

  • Artists within the electronic genre frequently feature themselves on their advertisements/ digipacks as a way to represent their 'Star Image' as they often do not feature in their music videos due to the lack of performance required within the genre
  • However, artists often feature as Cameos during their videos, me and Ed incorporated this into our video by involving me in the party scene, as a extra in the background in one of the shots
-I acted as the artist while Ed took the images, we took several things into consideration, including framing, props, and the set

-We chose to shoot in the drama studio upstairs as it could act as an abstract location, however we used a variety of props and arranged the set to incorporate 'regular' everyday items in order to create a sense of surrealism conventional of Flume's artwork / Advertisements

2)

- I began the edit of the final, relationship scene during school hours, then completed it on my laptop when I got home
- I decided to incorporate a relatively high cutting rate, that slowly decreased as the song drew to a close, this allowed the rate to fade out of the high rate during the party scene, rather than instantly cutting to a slow rate
- I focused on continuity editing, showing the characters leaving the first location before cutting to the second
- I placed a warm effect over the footage in colour grading by upping the Gamma and the Lift by 0.2 towards Red, this anchored the happy emotions represented in the scene, something that I found particularly effective when juxtaposed against the Black&White footage seen previously

-In the final shot, I opened with a focus pull, however I decided to reverse the shot to end the Video with a pull out of focus, I did so by manipulating the time of the clip through the retime curve
