-Surreal elements reflect meaning behind song (battle with addiction represented by dragon)
-Intercutting between 2 lines of action- the band performing the song/ the protagonist of the story
-Minimal colour reflects message/ meaning behind song- anchors narrative of a struggle/ jeaprody
Stressed out, 21 Pilots:
-Intercutting between 3 lines of action/ lines of performance
-Several tracking shots following artist while he performs
-Maintains eye contact with camera/ present effect with audience
-Props relating to lyrics e.g. assosciated with childhood (tricycle/ juice boxes)
Where are U now, Justin Bieber:
-Heavy focus on musician- Drawings add to Musician as opposed to drawing attention away from him
-Large use of editing/post production
-Unconventional production process- drawing on each frame (Very effective)
Waiting All Night, Disclosure:
-Narrative based/ Cinematic experience separate to video
-Some correlation to lyrics/music e.g. cuts on beat/ message
-Use of hand-icam create present feel/ helps audience connect to viewer
-Focus on narrative over music = unconventional video
Video Ideas:
-Narrative based video, similar to Disclosure, however with more focus on the music as opposed to the video. We can achieve this by forming a strong correlation between the theme/lyrics of the song and the video
-Surreal elements that anchor the songs meaning/message (I believe surreal elements can lead to very effective cinematography if done correctly), however I don't believe these surreal elements should make the narrative seem unrealistic/ make the audience feel disconnected from the narrative
-Cuts on beat = very effective technique to make video seem smooth/ make it fit with the music, this technique is particularly effective for Dance/EDM genres
Song Ideas:
-After researching several music videos from multiple genres, I believe that the Electronic/House genre will suite our Video Ideas/ furthermore the fact that the videos within the genre are generally not performance based gives us freedom to produce an effective narrative
You and Me- Flume remix
Pros:
Lyrics/ theme of song allows strong narrative relating to relationships
-Musics BPM allows for effective cutting rates on beat/ montage of shots on beat
-Timing of Drop/ drops position from end of song is ideal for narrative to reach it's peak/ fulfil it's equilibrium
Cons:
-Lack of lyrics = lack of guidance regarding narrative
-No performance aspect = more difficult to associate video with music, solely relies on lyrics/ cuts on beat
-Song is fairly repetitive making an equilibrium difficult to structure (lack of arc within song)
Development:
You and Me:
- 2 separate moods for 2 separate characters - Possible Signifiers:
- Mise-en scene: Costumes signify mood/emotion, one side= colourful, other side= Darker colours
- Editing: Colour grading - e.g. one side in black/white, other in full colour
- Mise-en Scene: Location- Happier side= colourful/ exciting locations (e.g. beach, with friends etc.) Sadder side= unhappy locations (e.g. alone/ at home)
-Possible equilibrium = love reciprocated
-Equilibrium = Sad sides transition to happier sides mood (e.g. burst into full colour) (Both character and previous locations)
-Equilibrium will ideally fall on the drop of the song
ok this looks like a detailed post but there are no links to videos or tracks these need to be included; the videos should be embedded if possible.
